Chai masala is the heart of traditional Indian spiced tea, a beloved drink that has been shared across generations as a gesture of hospitality and connection. This recipe comes from our family’s tradition, passed down through generations and crafted to balance warming spices with aromatic sweetness and a touch of floral elegance.
Unlike commercial blends, our chai masala contains no added sugar, artificial flavours, or fillers—just pure, organic spices that have been dry roasted before being ground. Each spice is carefully sourced and hand-ground in small batches to preserve essential oils and vibrant flavours.
The blend combines the sweet warmth of cinnamon, the gentle heat of ginger and peppers, the aromatic complexity of cardamom, the rich depth of nutmeg, and the delicate fragrance of rose petals. The black pepper adds a subtle kick, so use sparingly if you prefer a milder spice.

For traditional chai (serves 2): In a milk pan, add 2 mugs of water and 2 heaped teaspoons of loose leaf black tea (Assam recommended; 2 tea bags can be used if loose leaf is not available). Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of chai masala, and add brown sugar or honey, plus grated fresh ginger if desired. Boil for 2-3 minutes until infused. Reduce heat, add 1/2 cup of milk (consider sweetness of plant-based milk). Boil again, then turn off before it overflows. Strain and enjoy.
This versatile chai masala can also be used on granola, in smoothie bowls, or protein shakes.
