Garam masala translates to "warm spice blend" in Hindi, and it’s a cornerstone of Indian cooking. This recipe has been passed down through generations of our family, each adding their own touch while honouring the foundation. Ours uses eleven whole spices, carefully sourced, hand-ground in small batches to preserve their essential oils and vibrant flavours.
Unlike many commercial blends, our garam masala contains no fillers, salt, or additives – just pure, organic spices at their peak freshness. The complexity comes from the interplay of sweet cinnamon and star anise, warming black pepper and ginger notes from cardamom, and the aromatic depth of coriander and cumin.
Coriander seeds, Cumin seeds, Mace, Black pepper, Cinnamon, Black cardamom, Green cardamom, Star anise, Clove buds, Bay leaves, Nutmeg.
Add during cooking for depth, or sprinkle over finished dishes for aromatic warmth. Perfect for curries, daals, roasted vegetables, marinades, and rice dishes. Start with 1/2 teaspoon and adjust to taste.
